Hake’s Auction #244 Goes Live July 8
Things are heating up at Hake’s Auctions as they prepare to open their next premier auction of pop culture and Americana collectibles. Auction #244 will present rare Star Wars toys, important historical memorabilia, key comics and original art, and so much more. The auction launches on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, and will close three weeks later on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 29-30.
The political memorabilia section is anchored by an 1864 Lincoln and Johnson 26-star fabric flag featuring the Pennsylvania ballot. The 1929 R316 Kashin Publications Babe Ruth signed card PSA 2 with PSA/DNA 7 autographs is at the top of the sports section.
Diana of Themyscira leads the comics with Wonder Woman #1 CGC 3.0, featuring the retelling of Wonder Woman’s origin, the debut of her own book, and the first appearance of Ares. Switching to comic art, Hake’s has the Sub-Mariner #11 cover by Gene Colan showing Namor racing across the ocean’s surface. The Star Wars Weekly #8 cover by Gil Kane from the Marvel UK series recreates the moment Darth Vader and Ben Kenobi duel at the end of A New Hope. The Judge Dredd – 2000 AD Program comic magazine cover by Brian Bolland has an image of Dredd being blown off his motorcycle as an atomic bomb explodes.
The Star Wars section has many, many highlights, such as a Star Wars VHS tape CGC 9.4 (drawer box) sealed, V-overlap, with white CBS/Fox Video watermark on the back. The rare Special Early Bird Certificate Package store display AFA 70 was used for the backdrop on the Sears Cantina Adventure playset. It is followed by the Early Bird Certificate Package AFA 90 cardboard envelope containing the sealed kit that was sent before figures were available. The next lot represents the figures that came with the mail-away offer, including Luke Skywalker with the double-telescoping lightsaber.
The toy section includes a G.I. Joe Hovercraft (Killer W.H.A.L.E.) Series 3 vehicle AFA 85, which is considered one of the toy line’s most desirable pieces. The Masters of the Universe Battle for Eternia Series 2 gift set AFA 60 comes with Skeletor, Man-E-Faces, and Panthor. The Transformers Series 3 Trypticon AFA 80 has the transforming mini-car Full-Tilt (who forms Trypticon’s chest plate) and the tank, Brunt. On the vintage toy side, Hake’s has rare Mickey Mouse and Betty Boop boxed 1930s “Time is Gold” celluloid wind-up toys.
